The 3-Day Albanian Alps Classic Loop
The full Accursed Mountains circuit: Komani Lake gorges, the Shala River, the Valbona Pass on foot, and the village of Theth. Three days, all arranged.
All-inclusive package 42.52°N · 19.62°E
A quieter trip into the Kelmend region, right against the Montenegrin border: the Cem River Canyon and the alpine meadows of Lëpushë, one of the least-visited corners of Albania.
Day by day
We leave Shkodër mid-morning and follow the paved road that winds through the Cem River Canyon (Lumi i Cemit), with limestone walls rising on both sides. We pass through the stone villages of Tamarë and Selcë, with stops to look around Kelmend. By late afternoon we reach the highland basin of Lëpushë, ringed by the Accursed Mountains. You'll stay at a family-run guesthouse, with dinner made from local ingredients: dairy, slow-roasted meat, and homemade raki.
After breakfast, spend the morning walking the wildflower meadows around Lëpushë, or go a bit further to Vermosh, the northernmost village in Albania, in a wide valley next to the Montenegrin border. In the afternoon we drive back down through the canyon, seeing it from the other direction. We're back in Shkodër by late afternoon.
